JOB SUMMARY
The Data Governance Coordinator (DGC) referenced below manages the Metadata Management program and is responsible for working with Data Custodians and other subject matter experts across the university to ensure that report specifications and definitions are accurate in the metadata repositories (Data Cookbook, ODS Data Dictionary). The DGC assists the Director of Enterprise Data Governance in setting objectives for the Metadata Management program and creating tactics to achieve the objectives. The DGC also manages the Data Classification Program, leading meetings with the Data Classification Liaisons, acting as a resource for the university on Data Classification issues, and leading onboarding sessions for Data Classification Liaisons and the management teams in the program.

The Data Governance Coordinator assists the Sr Associate Director of Data Governance in scheduling Data Custodian and Shared Data Governance forums and tracking outstanding action items by following up with those who are responsible for their completion. The DGC attends all meetings, takes minutes, and publishes them after they have been reviewed. In some cases, the DGC will coordinate and facilitate some Data Custodian meetings with oversight from the Sr Associate Director.

The Data Governance Coordinator (DGC), as a part of University Decision Support (UDS), manages institutional data in the Northeastern reporting environment and provides reliable, accurate, secure, and accessible data to meet strategic needs at all levels of the campus. "Institutional data" is data relevant to the planning, managing, operating, and auditing of university academic and administrative activities, in particular the data available from the university's Operational Data Store (ODS) and the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Broad responsibilities of the Data Governance Coordinator include but are not limited to participating in data governance initiatives via ongoing and newly developed data governance forums, documenting data policies/guidelines and data definitions, and facilitating data access and use activities.
The Coordinator will be a dedicated member of the University Decision Support (UDS) team responsible for supporting the successful implementation and ongoing growth and development of the university’s data governance program including subject-specific and cross-functional forums.
Under the guidance of the Senior Associate Director of Data Governance and the leadership of the Director of Enterprise Data Governance, the candidate will work closely with business partners, including colleges and non-academic business units, and the ITS Business Intelligence and Analytics team to identify and resolve data-related issues, participate in data projects, and maintain documentation of issues and action items resulting from meetings of Data Custodians and Data Governance forums.
The DGC will also function as the first point of contact for issues that are routed to the Data Governance team for resolution. The Coordinator will examine the issue, determine the most appropriate resource to resolve the issue, and communicate with the submitter to acknowledge receipt. As the issue is being resolved, the Coordinator will provide the submitter with periodic updates on the progress made.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required. At least two years of experience in data governance, data and analytics, or technology training, preferably in a postsecondary education or non-profit setting. Ability to write and speak clearly and concisely and convey ideas to varied audiences. Experience in working with customers to resolve issues and communicate solutions. Demonstrated ability to lead presentations and meetings. Ability to work seamlessly in teams and build cross-university partnerships. Strong planning, analytical, and organizational skills. Demonstrated experience working hands-on with data warehouses, reporting tools, or business intelligence tools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Departmental Systems Lead 25%
  • Serve on technology committees/users’ group to implement and monitor new systems, updates, and project status reports. Audits activities related to system upgrades.
  • Oversees preparation of detailed technical specifications for electronic interfaces and exchanges with internal and external applications and systems. Maintains accurate, complete, and current documentation of these solutions.
  • Provides specialized systems expertise to generate special reports, statistical summaries and records and assists analysts and end-users used in preparing and generating/developing ad hoc reports or queries, spreadsheets and lists.
  • Assesses future system needs.
  • Monitors and participates in applying updates to the system to ensure maximum performance in compliance with established operational procedures for systems; troubleshoots, analyzes, detects, and corrects technical problems and deficiencies; proposes solutions to technical problems and identifies areas for improvement and enhancement; ensures the system complies with state and federal mandated guidelines.
  • Prioritizes the integrity, accuracy and availability of information and data for end users and supports the goals of the unit department.
Data Analyze & Reporting 25%
  • Review issues submitted and forward to Data Governance team members for resolution as appropriate.
  • Analyze trends for submitted issues and propose business process changes to address them.
  • Respond to submitters to acknowledge receipt of the issue and, if possible, provide a timeline for resolution.
  • Provide periodic updates to submitters as appropriate.
Data Governance Project Administration 25%
  • Support Data Governance forums such as the Shared Data Governance and the Data Classification Subgroups:
    • Assist in leading meetings
  • Track action items & resolutions
  • Analyze issues for potential downstream effects, prioritization, and escalation.
  • Coordinate with Data Governance team members to provide updates on metadata management and data quality initiatives.
Data Custodian Project Lead 25%
  • Lead Data Custodians meetings on Data Governance initiatives affecting the subject area.
  • Work with Data Custodians on action plans to resolve pending issues.
  • Analyze issues for potential downstream effects, prioritization, and escalation.
  • Work with Data Governance team members to provide updates on metadata management and data quality initiatives.
