The Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) seeks a Social Media Specialist to support Breakthrough ACTION, a global flagship social and behavior change program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Breakthrough ACTION works to increase the practice of health behaviors around the world-from sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV to using modern contraceptive methods. The program harnesses the demonstrated power of communication, including mass media, community outreach, and social media, to inspire long-lasting change while also taking advantage of innovative approaches from marketing science, behavioral economics, and human-centered design.

The Social Media Specialist is an integral role on the Breakthrough ACTION team. They work closely with the Communications Director to create content for and manage Breakthrough ACTION's social media sites, write and edit for multiple formats, produce multimedia content, and provide other communications support as needed. Strong writing and visual design skills a must, with experience in public health preferred. The Social Media Specialist should have strong writing and visual design skills. This position is based in Baltimore, MD; remote work may be considered.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Create a social media strategy to meet communications goals with an emphasis on audience growth and development. Generate regular metrics reports analyzing performance.
Develop campaigns and brainstorm engaging content for diverse audiences, including USAID, host country government stakeholders, public health professionals, and social and behavior change practitioners.
Identify stories and produce engaging and informative written, visual, and multimedia content in support of communications objectives, working independently and with staff from across Breakthrough ACTION.
Manage the Breakthrough ACTION Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn accounts.
Create content for email campaigns and newsletters.
Adapt content from the Breakthrough ACTION blog and website to social media. May include writing, graphic design, photography, videography and other media formats.
Actively participate in brainstorming and strategy sessions.
Ensure all social media products and promotional efforts comply with the project branding strategy.
Maintain a calendar of conferences, world awareness days, technical meetings and other project-related events.
Monitor media, blogs, and relevant social media accounts and websites on a regular basis for news and updates pertinent to the program and its audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field.
Two years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with digital/social media strategy desired.
Experience with design software/programs (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud) and WordPress.
Outstanding writing and research skills.
Able to organize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
